Is It Time for Some Resurfacing to Freshen Up Your Home

As we age, so do our homes. It is important to do what we can to prevent our home from looking outdated. Resurfacing involves applying a new coating on something to give it a fresh finish. This coating can be used on your floors, your deck, or even the pool.

Countertop Resurfacing

If you have old and drab-looking countertops, resurfacing is a good way to revamp them to make them look like new. If you have laminate, ceramic, or porcelain tile surfaces, it is definitely something to consider. Keep in mind, however, that this might not work for all surfaces.

Resurfacing countertops instead of replacing them also allows you to save money. You can save anywhere between 30 percent and 50 percent when it comes to replacement costs. In addition, you can update a kitchen quickly and easily simply by resurfacing certain areas.

Pool Coatings

If your current pool is coated with plaster or tile, you can't just put a new coating over it. You have to first prepare the surface for a new coat of plaster by sandblasting or chipping the existing surface away. Once the pool has been adequately prepared by a professional, you can go ahead and have it resurfaced.

Is it worth the effort? That depends. If you regularly care for and maintain your pool, you can extend its longevity and keep it looking its best by having it resurfaced every ten years or so. If you have begun to notice staining that is spreading and becoming too difficult to remove, a rough texture, or leaks, then pool resurfacing is something to consider.

Bathroom Resurfacing

If you are looking for an inexpensive and convenient way to update your bathroom while achieving an entirely new look, bathroom resurfacing is the way to go. You get to dodge the high costs of complete replacement and renovation, and it can usually be done within three days’ time.

Ceramic tile refinishing can be used on several different tile surfaces in the bathroom. However, before deciding on what to do, you want to take into consideration how much wear and tear there will be. For example, while you can resurface floors, you should avoid areas with more foot traffic and where more damage can be sustained.

Areas in the bathroom you can consider resurfacing include the countertops, sink, tiles, tub, vanity, and shower. Before resurfacing, the surface needs to be properly prepped—this means repairing cracks or other types of damage there may be while also filling in missing grout lines. Once this is all done and everything is ready, a top coat will be used, and you will have a moisture-proof barrier that is easy to clean and ideal for a bathroom environment.
